Top 5 Reasons Why You Need Email Marketing

With all the digital channels available to your small business, you’re probably wondering if email is really worth it. Do people really still check their inboxes? Will my message get through to them?

The short answer is yes! You need email marketing for your business to survive. Here’s why: a recent study found that there are 3.8 billion global email users. That’s more than the amount of Facebook (1.86 Billion), Instagram (800 million) and Twitter (330 million) users combined.

Add the fact that most people check their email more often than any social media account, and it’s easy to see why you needed email marketing yesterday. But if your still not sure if email will work for you, your in the right place.

Today we’re going to walk through the top five reasons that email marketing stomps any other type of marketing in the face.

1. Email marketing is cheap and you make more money

For every dollar you spend on an email marketing campaign, you receive on average $38 in return. For most small businesses and entrepreneurs working on a tight budget, finding ways to maximize every dollar spent is key to success. Why spend literally thousands of dollars on radio or tv commercials when you can reach out to a huge amount of people for far less money with email.

2. Reach customers across multiple devices seamlessly

Marketing agency Return Path analyzed 27 billion emails between 2016 and 2017. They found that 55% were opened on a mobile device. Using plain text email, you can reach both the increasing number of people who open emails on their phones and those who still open email on their desktop. Additionally, the number of people checking email on tablets continues to rise.

You need to reach people who prefer to read email on mobile devices because that is where the majority of people will read their email first.

3. Email is a great way to offer discounts

With the rise of online shopping, consumers have turned to digital coupons for deals on products they like. You can take advantage of this by offering digital coupons through email. A Juniper Research report found that by the year 2019 there will be at least 1 billion mobile coupon users. This is a huge increase from past years. You can easily take advantage by offering discounts on your most popular products or courses.

4. You can track your results

This is a huge bonus. With tv, print, and radio ads it can be hard to see who is actually receiving your message. You also have no clue if your marketing actually leads to sales. With email you can measure the following:
  • Click through rate
  • Conversion rate
  • Bounce rate
  • List growth rate
  • Email sharing rate
  • Overall ROI

5. Email is easy to personalize

Going beyond tracking, with an email you can target a population of your audience and send specific information based on your audience’s interests/values. Get personal with your audience. With email, you can send letters with a person's first and last name. You can send emails right when a person is going to or getting off work. You can develop landing pages that give specific content only to interested parties, like ebooks on marketing for marketers.

So now you know that email may be old news, but it’s still very effective. You don’t need a large budget to get started. With a little bit of practice and a lot of patience, you can reach a huge audience for a fraction of the cost.
